What the heck is Verdaccio? In Italian, it’s a greenish or brownish gray color made from mixing black, yellow ochre, and white. Historically, it was used for underpainting in frescoes, portraits, and, well…all sorts of painting. Essentially, it’s the foundation of a great work of art.

I am Ciana di Carlo, an artist and costumer, specializing in historical themes for the past 20+ years. Loving all things Medieval and Renaissance, I find myself diving into obscure art forms, using period materials whenever possible, and providing quality goods for Medievalists in the SCA, ACL, BoTN, LARP, cosplay, education, and more.  I make custom heraldic combat garb, hand painted shields,  flags and banners, in addition to oil painting and illumination.
